From Virtual Assistant to Workplace Culture Advocate: How One Leap of Faith Changed Everything

I Didn't Start Where You'd Expect Most people who know me today associate my name with workplace culture, leadership development, and professional mentoring.

But that's not where this story begins.

It begins in 2014, with a laptop, an internet connection, and a decision I couldn't take back.

Leaving the Familiar Behind

Before any of this, I had a career that looked perfectly fine from the outside events, marketing, and sales. It was structured. It was recognizable. It had a title people understood at dinner parties.

And then I walked away from it.

Not for a better-paying job. Not for a promotion. Not for something that made logical sense on a resume.

I left to become a Virtual Assistant β€” a role that, at the time, most people in my circle had never even heard of.

The World I Stepped Into

There was:

πŸ—ΊοΈ No roadmap to follow 🧭 No mentor to guide me πŸ›‘οΈ No safety net to catch me if I fell Just me, figuring it out as I went.

And the opinions? They came immediately.

"Why would you leave a stable career?" "That's not a real job." "You're going to regret this."

The doubt wasn't just external. I'd be lying if I said I never heard those same voices in my own head on the hard days.

But Something Told Me to Keep Going Despite the noise, despite the uncertainty, despite the blank stares, something in me knew.

There was more to my career than what was sitting right in front of me.

I couldn't articulate it then. I couldn't draw it on a whiteboard or explain it in a job interview. But the feeling was undeniable:

This leap, as uncomfortable as it was, was pointing me somewhere important.

What I Didn't Know Yet I didn't know that this single decision would eventually lead me to:

🏒 Training organizations on how to build healthier, more intentional workplace cultures 🌱 Mentoring professionals to build careers rooted in clarity and purpose πŸ“£ Advocating for workplaces where people actually thrive That version of my career felt impossibly far away in 2014.

But it started here. With the uncertain choice. With the skeptics. With the uncomfortable silence after I said, "I'm doing this."

First, I Had to Survive Before the speaking engagements, before the training rooms, before the mentor conversations there was just the grind of figuring it out.

And that story? That's what's coming next.

Why I'm Sharing This I'm telling you this not to impress you, but because I know someone reading this right now is standing at their own crossroads.

Maybe you're considering a pivot that scares you. Maybe people in your life don't understand your vision. Maybe you're wondering if the unconventional path is worth it.

Here's what I want you to take from Part 1:

βœ… You don't need everyone's approval to move forward. βœ… The unclear path is still a path. βœ… The beginning is supposed to feel hard. That doesn't mean it's wrong.

If this resonated with you, share it with someone who needs to hear it today. And drop a comment below β€” I'd love to know: what's the leap you're considering right now?
